Personality/History: Meet Prieta, fondly known as Momma Bear. She's soft, snuggly, cuddly and sweet. She's 10 years old and is a big girl as you can see. She came to our Sanctuary in Baja after being dumped on the dirt road leading up from town. She loves to follow the workers when they walk down to the Colonia for their lunch break. Hmmm.... do you think food is a motivator for her? Ha ha, of course it is... Just take a look at her! She is looking for somewhere mellow and a nice human companion to spend her golden years with. She will take great care of you, she's highly intelligent, and walks nicely on the leash. She is very loving. Momma Bear is very gentle with children and would be a great addition to any home. She's past the puppy stage of hyperness and now she's a wise dog from all her years of experience, calm natured and relaxed. Just look at her adorable face and you can see her gentle soul. She is spayed, up to date on her shots and has a small adoption donation since she's a rescue. She is in a local foster home in the San Diego area.

Being very food-motivated, Chewy’s training should be fairly easy for an experienced dog owner that knows how to take a firm, but gentle, lead with him. Personality/History: Mei Ling recently has been diagnosed with an enlarged heart and is on medication. Surely, there is someone who loves this special breed who will be willing to offer her a home in the sun for her last years? Mei Ling as a young girl failed a junk yard guard dog test and was abandoned to the streets. She found her way to our gate and scratched to come in. (This happening occurred years ago - Mei Ling was welcomed. She's been for years our mascot. She patrols the grounds at night - protecting us from unknown threats!) Mei Ling with her military strut is a treasure. Fun-loving and funny, she loves best brushing (she knows she's beautiful). Mei Ling has been placed twice - both times, even though each was a superbly-qualified home, she was miserable. She hates being left alone and will chew molding around the doors (any door) if not crate-confined in the house when alone. Unfortunately, she doesn't tolerate being alone outside either and will chew the molding around the back door to attempt to get in. She does love our Rescue facility where there is continual activity. Have you a home for our pretty girl? We've noted no children since Mei Ling has never been exposed to children. She'd probably be the best guardian ever - however, we cannot guarantee that.

Personality/History: JeWonderful personality. A clown who loves to make people laugh with his antics. Prefers to be the only dog. Fine with well-behaved children. Jeff is deaf in one ear. Jeff has been with us for most of his life. He's now almost 13 years old. Surely someone who reads this is able to give him a few years of normalcy? He is a good boy. He loves walks and tummy rubs. He'll bring you his food bowl at feeding time - and his blanket, clutched in his mouth, simply for attention. Please - he shouldn't have to live out his life in a Rescue facility . . . We're open to 'permanent fosters' with our seniors: you provide the happy-ever-after - we'll provide medical care, quality food, etc.

Personality/History: This is Newey who is 10 years old and a real sweetheart. He is blind but can find his way fairly well by sounds like footsteps. He loves to go for walks on leash. He is impeccably housebroken. He also likes to sit with Jill when she is working at the computer. Jill thinks no young children just because of the blindness. He has memorized the locations of all her doors. He is a little guy who is a bit over weight and is not telling how much. As most of Jill's rescue dogs, he was dumped at a pound. She is the sweetest girl, gets along with all dogs and is very good with children. I have found her just sitting with my grand kids when they are here. She does not jump up on people so she could be with small children. Takes treats very gently. She does not dig in the yard nor chew on things. Only have heard her bark a couple of times. She likes to lay in the grass under the tree during the day and comes in during the evening. She likes to be where I am when she is in the house. Sleeps through the night and is house trained. Have not tested her with cats as I do not have any. I will see if I can "borrow" my neighbors cat to test with. But my feeling is that she would be ok with them. Personality/History:Andy is a sweet boy arrived to us from the South Shelter, who looks a bit older than his personality says he is. He has a sweet white face but as much spunk as a kid year old, but we're estimating his age around 8. With some good nutrition I think the years will roll back and he'll be a happy guy. Andy needs some TLC in a big way! His is very underweight and that malnourished life he's been living means is coat is not nearly as beautiful as it's going to be. It will be like soft gold when he's gotten some good meals for a while. He's fluffier than some labs and has a gorgeous face that will be drop dead handsome when he gets some meat on his thin frame! He rode like a gent in the car and loves people very much. He even crates well when he needed to be crated. He's been in a volunteer's home and did not have any accidents there over night and has not attempted to chew one thing. He dug a little tiny bit in a planter, and does worry if he's closed in a room away from people. But we don't blame him, he's confused, sad, and lonely. He clearly was not treated with near the amount of love and respect he deserves and desperately wants, yet he doesn't seem to be at all scared of people or loud noises and wants to lavish love on every person near him. He'll give you a big hug if you'll let him come cuddle with you! He has arthritis and some dysplasia but still moves like a younger pup when he wants to play! He can be nice and mellow too and patiently waited during his bath and even though his ears were a little infected he's let us doctor him up without any protesting at all. He has interacted well with some dogs but does not pair well with alpha males just yet, so we'll be determining if it would be good for him to be placed with other dogs - he wags nonstop at them and is so excited to go where they do, but when they roughhouse him he doesn't like it too much (hey would you if you had arthritis?!). He does bark and chase kitties the way most dogs were born to do...man he loves the game! He hasn't been tested too much with children, although did meet one politely. He doesn't jump up, and boy does he know his commands! If you ask hi to “sit”, “down” and “shake” he is very excited to show you what he knows! He has some arthritis from his rough early years but he's a pretty spunky boy ready for some play and love! He probably wouldn't make a good running companion but will enjoy nice walks and lots of attention. Would you like to foster Andy or adopt him to help him get some of the TLC he deserves? Personality/History:We just cast a spell on you! We're Sabrina and Samantha and we're a loving bonded pair of black labs. If you look deep in our eyes we'll bewitch you with our charming smiles and beautiful jet black coats. We were abandoned by our owner, but thank goodness we have each other and that Lab Rescue is willing to help us a home where we can always stay that way. We cry when we're apart, and if you take one of us too far away from the other we sure start to worry. But when we are side by side we wag our tails and smile. We don't really jump up on people, but our leash manners need a little work. We calmly cruise the dog park together, stopping to sniff other dogs here and there. We play fantastically with each other and are polite with other dogs...except we prefer big doggies to little ones...those little ones might look a little like cats so we bark at them! If you wanted to take us for a car ride all you'd have to do is open the door and with a twitch of our noses we'll be inside like magic! We ride nicely wherever we're going. We're mature enough that we know our manners, but basic commands aren't things anyone ever taught us. Personality/History:Lucky is a sweet older female that was originally adopted from the Helen Woodward Shelter. She was an owner turn in from someone who could not take care of her anymore. She is very sweet and gentle. She is good with other dogs. She is especially good with children, but is she slightly scared of loud noises. She is very patient and gentle and easy to walk. She knows her basic commands and would love to curl up on your couch. Please consider this girl, she is not used to being outside of the home and really needs companionship. She is spayed and all ready to go. Take her home today. Also, she has had both knee or hips replaced by Helen Woodward in her prior travels, but she runs around as if everything is fine. He acts like he has been someone's in the house companion and that is where he likes it best, with his person. Personality/History:Beware the wagging tail! Annie loves to give and get lots of affection... She's about 10-years old, so her exercise needs are modest, but she loves to go wherever you go... on walks, in the yard or rides in the car. Annie's a real people-pleaser, is house-trained and knows some basic commands. She does have a touch of arthritis, but the vet said if she could drop a few pounds it would make life even more enjoyable for her!

Personality/History:This is Bunny Bunny was rescued from an Inland Empire shelter. She weighs about 55 lbs. She loves people, and won't miss a chance to be petted by anyone she meets. The shelter guessed her age at 9 years, but she could fool anyone with her energy and enthusiasm. She loved her bath and the other dogs at the groomers. She wants to play with all of them, and seems to like kids. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and looking for her new family. Bunny rides well in the car, walks fairly well on leash and seems to get along fine with cats. Oh! We are calling her Bunny because she has a little bunny tail. Nobody will ever know how that happened! But at least the stuff on the coffee table is safe.

Personality/History:Duke is a one of a kind and one of the kindest dogs. Duke had a really hard time in the shelter system and had pretty much given up. Thank God that Lab Rescue found Duke because he has rebounded to an amazingly wonderful boy. Duke is a fun, warm hearted, gentle and easy dog. You will see that he is a Beautiful Lab Shepherd mix with soft full fur and as smart as a "whip". You would make the perfect companion for Duke if you are looking for a dog who is completely trained, does not jump, only barks when he should, and loves being outdoors. You will often say "where is Duke" and he will come walking, with his little bounce, from around the corner outside. Duke will greet you after a long day with a nudge of his head a sparkle in his eye and a soft paw on your arm. A quick ear rub and he is patient to wait for dinner, then he will perform his dinner "happy dance". Duke likes to play a little ball and really loves his walk. Duke loves kids and is best friends with his foster Daughter who is 9, he waits for her each morning to get his morning hug and scratch. Duke would be best in a home without cats. Duke could be in a home with non agressive dogs or would be great as an only dog. He does great home alone and can use a doggie door, he is happy spending time outside. Personality/History:Ibby is an 8 year old, overweight, spayed, pretty chocolate female turned in to the Chula Vista shelter. She has lots of energy, sits, stays, rides well in the car and takes treats nicely. The CV staff helped out with her evaluation and tested her with another dog; an approx 4-5 month old male pit mix. He jumped her, and while she had a lot to say to him, didn’t charge or bite him. Her Safer test score is a B, which means it is recommended that she not be placed with children under 11 years old as she is pretty definite about her food bowl. Although this could subside with trust that she will always have food and love. She is eager to please and just craves a family of her own. She has had all of her vaccinations.
